For many years I have suffered from neck pain radiating to my right arm and severe constant headaches almost on a daily basis. ] I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and bulging discs which caused me to have severe lower back pain, hip pain and numbness in my legs and feet and very little range of motion.

] I tried chiropractic care, physiotherapy, massage, bed rest and pain medication. I was barely able to get out of bed without help. Couldn't walk very far without pain. Couldn't sit or lie down for long without pain. I didn't sleep well and I had to go into our hot tub for 20-30 minutes in the morning just to get moving! I was on Morphine for the pain!

Basically, all activities ceased and I was only able to work. And I could only work wearing hot and cold patches to help with the pain. I was in severe pain the whole day and when I got home I had to lie down to try and ease the pain.

My first initial injury was in February 2001. I tried physiotherapy and 3 epidural needles in my back and that did not work. Then I tried chiropractic care and that worked for about 2 years at going at a frequency of 2 to 3 times per week and then the pain started coming back.

I have been under my doctor's care for neck pain for more than 15 years. During that time I visited Chiropractors, had physiotherapy, traction and acupuncture, none of which prevented my condition from continuing to deteriorate.

About 12 years ago, I visited a neurologist who sent me for an MRI. It was discovered that I had degenerative disc disease. His recommendation was neck-fusion surgery as soon as possible. The surgical risks were very high (the surgery might not work, I could be paralyzed, or even die), as a result I opted out of the surgery.

Treatment for my condition remained ongoing using physiotherapy, traction and acupuncture, all giving little relief from the pain. This led to the next phase of my treatment plan which involved ?pain management? as prescribed by my doctor, starting with Tylenol #3 and codeine contin.

When I could no longer stand the pain, I returned to the neurologist prepared to have the surgery he had recommended. At this time another MRI was performed and it was discovered that I had not 1 but 2 pinched nerves in my neck caused by the degenerative disc disease. Surgery was now no longer an option.

It was at this time that my family doctor prescribed a morphine patch that did help to numb, not take away, the pain!!

At this point my life was now impacted to the point where I had to give up a lot of activities that I enjoyed as the pain progressed. I was not able to play tennis, softball or volleyball, all activities that I had once enjoyed.
