F.A.Q:

1. How does this treatment work and why is it so effective?
Our treatments are successful because we fix the cause of your problem. If your disc has been degenerated by arthritis, our spinal decompression will gently distract the vertebrae about the problematic disc, which in turn will create a vacuum-like effect that will suck nutrients and water back into the disc and re-hydrate it. This removes the pressure from the nerve and joints and gets rid of your pain and symptoms. If your problem is due to a disc herniation, that vacuum-like effect will suck the disc back into place and remove the pressure from the nerve.

2. Is this not just a fancy traction machine?
This treatment is not traction for many reasons. Unlike traction, our spinal decompression technology is precise! 80-90% of the decompressive forces are applied specifically to the problem area. Traction affects multiple vertebrae and only 4% of the traction forces are applied to each disc. Traction does not provide the maximum specific attention needed to the disc. Instead it is a diffuse generalized pull. Secondly, traction does not create that vacuum effect like spinal decompression, so it does not correct disc damage. Our spinal decompression creates a significant amount of vacuum effect within the disc; enough to effectively re-hydrate that disc and/or suck in the disc herniation that is pressing on the nerve.

3. Is it painful?
This treatment is not painful. Even though the machine may look intimidating, it is very gentle. In fact, despite how much pain you might be in, patients under treatment often fall asleep. And this is why when the treatment session ends, there are no buzzers or bells that go off; instead, the machine quietly and gently turns off.

4. Is this a permanent fix, or will it just simply come back in a couple of months?
This treatment is a permanent fix! Our treatments are specifically designed to correct the problem. Unless you hurt yourself and re-damage your spine, you should not have to undergo treatment again.

5. Why do medical doctors not know about this technology?
This is perhaps one of the most common questions we get. You must understand that most medical doctors only learn about the latest in surgical procedures and pharmaceuticals. So, unless your medical doctor looks beyond traditional medicine, they will know little, if anything about our treatments. However, many medical doctors do refer to our clinic and are under our care.

6. I have had surgery, is it still effective?
Spinal surgery is extremely risky – in fact, there is only about a 20-35% success rate with surgery. That means that up to 80% of all back surgeries fail!! A fair number of our patients have had failed back surgeries and have had fantastic results with us. In order to get these results, we only qualify those whose condition falls within strict guidelines.

7. Do I need a referral from my family doctor?
No, you do not need a referral from a family doctor. Although many patients come to the clinic with MRIs or CTs, we will take X-rays at our on-site facility if you don’t have any to bring any with you. If we feel that the X-rays are inconclusive, we will refer you to a family physician, or will advise you to go to your family physician to get a referral for an MRI or CT scan.

8. I have tried everything to treat my back, why would this work?
Many patients that come to our office have tried all, or a combination of several different treatments - physiotherapy, chiropractic care, massage and acupuncture – all have been met with disappointment. So naturally and justifiably, people are very skeptical when they come to us for treatment. This is why we perform a very comprehensive examination that includes computer surface electromyography, which accurately measures the severity of one’s condition and how the body is reacting to that problem. We also complete orthopedic and neurological testing, take X-rays, and examine any MRI or CT scans that you have. We correlate all of this information and make sure that you fall within the specified parameters so that we can help you.
